In space no one can hear you play the banjo

Check the sticker on the top of his visor! It looks like Rob is taking this project VERY seriously indeed!

Great to see so many people signed up and sharing thoughts. I am feeling inspired by a recent exhibition I dragged my family round at the Vand A called Cold War Modern. It charted the impact of the space race on the design world and the political implications of the aesthetics that followed. Got me thinking about the ideology of space being hijacked by politics and the military as a topic for my track. Now, where do I go from here?

  1. Sounds like an excellent exhibit. Seems like a juxtaposition; on one hand, the undeniable impact of space-tech design on culture, but on the other - highlighting the thrust [ha] behind the space race being primarily political and military.

Kennedy is famous for his speeches on space technology and putting men on the moon etc - but in fact the NASA budgets during his presidency were terribly prohibitive on space science. 100% of Kennedy's space budgets went to developing nuclear 'rocket' engines - that made their way directly to the new US submarine fleet. A little rhetoric goes a long way on the world stage.
